Building from execution to marketing leadership

My career started close to the ground: sales, dealer relationships, logistics and day-to-day marketing execution.

Over the years, that scope expanded across SME partnerships, retail campaigns, sponsorships, events, digital marketing and now B2B technology. Today, as Marketing Manager at ServeDeck, I work across strategy and execution in a lean B2B environment.

The industries have changed. One thing hasn't: I tend to work best where marketing needs to connect commercial objectives with practical execution.

2024 – Present · B2B SaaS / PropTech

Marketing Manager

ServeDeck Innovation Sdn Bhd

My first formal Marketing Manager role and a move deeper into B2B technology marketing. I lead marketing across positioning, content, inbound lead generation, SEO, industry engagement and partnerships, while working closely with sales and product in a lean team environment.

Selected outcomes

  • Generated 82+ high-intent marketing-qualified demo leads annually through SEO and organic channels, contributing to 10 closed deals and RM450,000 in revenue.
  • Grew the company's LinkedIn audience by 35% within eight months through a more structured organic content approach.
  • Helped reposition product messaging beyond operational functionality towards business outcomes such as efficiency and revenue protection.
  • Developed a content-led approach across LinkedIn, SEO and blogs to strengthen organic acquisition.

What I'm learning

Moving into management has changed how I think about marketing. Producing good work is no longer enough. Prioritisation, direction, stakeholder alignment and helping someone else do good work become part of the job too.

2024

Assistant Marketing Manager

Honsenz Holding Group

A short but commercially intensive role managing marketing execution and campaign alignment across multiple brands.

Selected outcome

  • Generated RM400,000 in sales from a HomeDec exhibition that attracted more than 500 visitors.

What I took from it

Working across multiple brands reinforced the importance of prioritisation and performance visibility when several campaigns are moving at the same time.

2022 – 2024

Senior Marketing Executive

OGN Group (Jimart)

My work covered thematic campaigns, loyalty growth, content direction and campaign activations. This was also where partnerships became a particularly useful part of my marketing toolkit.

Selected outcomes

  • Secured RM20,000 in sponsorship value.
  • Increased membership by 15%.
  • Led content direction including TikTok and campaign activations.

What I took from it

Relationships can get a conversation started. But a partnership becomes much easier to justify when you can back the idea with data and show what both sides stand to gain.

2017 – 2022

Marketing Executive

GCH Retail

Five years in retail gave me experience with marketing at a very different scale. I worked across the Cold Storage, Mercato and Giant portfolios, covering campaigns, partnerships, store activations and large-scale experiential marketing.

Selected experience

  • Managed RM1.2 million in partnerships.
  • Co-led a 40-store relaunch initiative.
  • Executed large-scale campaigns and experiential events.

What I took from it

Retail taught me that marketing plans eventually have to survive contact with operations. A campaign may look great centrally, but execution across stores, partners and frontline teams determines what customers actually experience.

2013 – 2017

Marketing Executive

PanPages

This period built much of my early experience in SME marketing, partnerships and events. I worked on business events, SME partnerships and regional business missions, often looking for ways to create commercial value without simply increasing expenditure.

Selected outcomes

  • Delivered RM1 million in annual convention revenue.
  • Generated approximately RM700,000 in cost savings through barter partnerships.
  • Built SME partnerships and supported regional business missions.

What I took from it

This was where I learned that resourcefulness is a genuine marketing skill. Budget matters, but so do relationships, negotiation and understanding what value you can exchange without always reaching for more cash.

2010 – 2013

Sales & Marketing Executive

TCI Marketing

Where it started. My first role combined sales and marketing with dealer relationships, logistics and operations. I also led a small team that achieved RM1.5 million in annual sales.

What I took from it

Starting this close to sales and operations gave me an early appreciation that marketing doesn't operate in isolation. Eventually, somebody has to sell, deliver and fulfil what was promised.

What connects all of this?

Looking back, my career hasn't followed one neat marketing specialisation. I've worked across sales, retail, events, partnerships, content, digital marketing and B2B technology.

I used to see being hands-on across so many areas as simply part of working in lean teams. Today, I see the advantage differently: it helps me understand how the pieces connect.

Strategy matters. So does whether the idea can actually be executed.
